Whilst watching "How the Brits Rocked America: Go West" on BBC4 last evening, I spotted a clip of the blue Chevy from RD Part 1 amongst the footage. Then a steady stream of Road Dreams clips started to appear throughout the programme (including a couple of clips of Elliott). 'Elliott Bristow's Road Dreams archive' got a mention in the credits.
Wow - even the BBC are starting to get wise to this gem!
Maybe they'll se fit to screen the entire series at some stage.....

Hi Elliott,

I happened across this website quite by chance and it brought back memories of Road Dreams (my taped copies long since disappeared after a couple of house moves) - and also of my own three trips to the States in 1977, 78 and 80, when I travelled across country by Greyhound bus and Amtrak. No video tapes alas (though that young woman looking over her shoulder at the camera looks awfully familiar - I'd love to know when and where that was shot).

I am a bit disturbed that your last comments on here seem to be two years old - makes me wonder if this is an active site. Are you still working on Codachrome and is there a release date any time soon?

All the best anyway - Road Dreams was magical and deserves to be available again.

I have changed my facebook profile pic to the RD T-shirt design, thus introducing it to many more people. This will undoubtedly, eventually, result in a further 10 million DVD and CD sales and a knighthood for Elliott for services to every nostalgic person in the western world!

Elliott, after watching the road dreams series on nz tv around 1982, you enspired this kiwi to leave NZ & shift to america in 1986 and live your dream for ten years.
The music & songs from your clips still ring daily in my ears, "rest those weary eyes tonight", who sang that??.please let me know, i had often been so weary but pressed on till i dropped!
now, 24 years later & approaching 60 years of age but have close ties with people , mostly former work mates & employers all over the US. I travel back every two years and re live it all over again. Love America because of the vastness, but its always great to get back home to nz for the endless chirping of birds, unlike the usa where so much has deminished now i feel.
Thanks again for the inspiration,
Russ, New Zealand.

If C4 no longer have any hold on these films then may BBC4 might consider putting them all together in their "Storyville" series. Content there is eclectic enough to include these films. IMO they are unique and have enough historical significance to warrant a permanant place in the achives. That does sound a bit serious but I'm biased like like all the fans here. If not Storyville we can at least keep hoping for Codachrome.
Best Wishes to you Elliott.

Hi Elliott, your anecdote brought back similar memories for me, while trying to remove a broken exhaust pipe from under a 1969 ford galaxie in a raging snow storm in Nova Scotia, I was using a hacksaw to cut through some rusty bolts. The car was so low to the ground that I could only work with my arms extended under the car whilst lying on my back. I was frozen numb and when I crawled out to give my arms a rest half way through the bolt cutting process, I discovered that I had also been cutting through the first finger of my left hand and never felt it! I shudder to think what might have been the outcome had I not crawled out for a rest. Keep up the good work Elliott, I never tire of introducing like minded people to my copy of Road Dreams, and my recent copy of Retro road Trips, and at times when I need a little spiritual revival ,on goes the dvd player, and I get my "fix"
Every good wish......Ralph

David,
I did write to C4 via e-mail on a couple of occasions to try and persuade them to repeat Road Dreams (especially now they've freed up 400 hours of air time by cancelling the infuriating 'Big Brother'). I did get a response - not overly positive but not outright dismissive either so there may be room to work on this. Maybe other readers of this forum can do the same and start the 'pressure group' to get RD back on our screens.

Do Channel 4 still hold the broadcasting rights to Road Dreams? Would seem a bit strange if they did, given their descent into ratings-chasing trash.

It strikes me BBC3 or BBC4 would be a good home for a re-run. Perhaps we should start a campaign.
