Dinosaur Gas - RetroRoadTrips Super 8 film - sample video for viewing and download

A walk in the Rockies, then on to Utah and Nevada and up through Oregon to Washington State.

Download Instructions

The download strategy for this site is to provide low res/small file 'taster' versions of the films in both QuickTime 7 and WMV 9 formats. (It must be QuickTime 7 - earlier versions of QuickTime will not play the H.264 codec.) A DVD is to be released before long which will make available full quality, MPEG-2 versions.

To start the download process, click on the link for either QuickTime or WMV. The film starts automatically in Progressive form. How smooth this is will depend on the speed of your internet connection and computer.

For this film (and to Joshua Tree) there is also the option to download versions in a larger file size, but only in QuickTime 7. These can be accessed here. This option may well be discontinued in the future.

QuickTime

To retain the film, right click on the downward facing arrow at the bottom right of the film screen. There are two possible choices: 1. Save as Source (for.m4v iPod use) 2. Save as QuickTime Movie. Click on either of those and a Dialog Box appears, giving you the choice of where to store the file.

Windows Media

It seems to be the case that there is no obvious loading bar indicator on the Windows Media Player. For a smoother viewing experience one suggestion would be to allow the film to start, and then click 'Pause' until it's had a reasonable time to download before clicking the 'Start' button.

PS If you do have the choice of QuickTime 7 (available for both Mac and Windows), the preference would have to be for QuickTime over WindowsMediaPlayer (though it must be vs.7 or later). The H.264 codec presents fast moving images much more clearly.
